Our Story

Twenty years of planting beauty.

Canteiro began with a Portuguese word — a quiet one. It names the place where things are planted. A flower bed. A garden in waiting.

Twenty years ago, in Cancún, that word became the name of a small studio devoted to one idea: that every wedding deserves to be planted with care, and grown with beauty.

From a single floral studio, Canteiro has grown into a full design and production house — floral design, furniture, custom fabrication, all under one roof, all made with the same intention as when we started.

What was once two people and an idea is now an integrated team of creatives, builders, and florists working across the Mexican Caribbean. The scale has changed. The intention has not.

Behind every wedding we create stand two people who built this house together — and a marriage at the same time. Gabi shapes the creative direction. Lizardo shapes the culture and vision that hold the work together. Twenty years in, the work still passes through both of their hands.

With Brazilian roots and a heart now fully Mexican, Gabi has spent more than two decades shaping what beauty looks like at a wedding — the kind that lives in a well-set table, in the curve of a stem, in the way a room can change someone's day. She arrived in Cancún to build a life, and weddings found her there.

Today she leads every creative decision at Canteiro and is one of the recognized voices of destination weddings in Mexico — her work featured in Style Me Pretty, Destination I Do Magazine, and Biz Bash. For her, the flowers and the light are only ever the language. The story is always love.

Born in Mérida, Yucatán, Lizardo trained in marketing and business administration, and later in executive leadership at IPADE Business School. But the foundation of his work has always been the same conviction: companies grow when the people inside them genuinely believe in the purpose of what they are building.

Twenty years ago he set out with Gabi to build that purpose into a home. Today, as president, his focus is the culture, the leadership, and the long-term vision behind every project Canteiro creates. For him, the work is always the people.

Nothing in the room is there by accident. Every flower, every fabric, every light source is a chosen answer to a question we asked together.

2 — Beauty

We believe beauty is a form of generosity. It honors the people present, the place we are in, and the day itself.

How we work matters as much as what we make. We protect our couples from the weight of production — so the day feels lighter than it is.

4 — Place

We are a Mexican Caribbean studio. The light, the materials, the rhythm of this coast are part of every wedding we design.
